Sightseeing and Sushi Sampling in Seattle
After a fun filled week of soaking up the California sun, we were off to Seattle to visit my mom and see her new home in Mukilteo! My mom moved to Seattle for work while I was living in Korea, so this was my first time visiting Seattle and seeing my mom’s new home!
Connor and I met up with my brother Daniel, and his adorable dog, Nala, at Long Beach Airport. We had a couple of preflight drinks, and then the four of us were off to see Mom!
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Seattle. The city is the perfect combination of bustling and cozy, familiar and eclectic. Downtown Seattle has history and charm, from Pike Place Market and the first Starbucks, to the world famous Space Needle, and my favorite, Dave Chihuly’s Garden and Glass exhibition.
We ended our day of sightseeing with a delicious dinner of sushi! I had not had gratifying sushi in ages, as surprisingly, Korean sushi isn’t the best. Koreans prefer their sushi frozen, and then eaten after thawed, while I like my sushi as fresh as possible!
Heather chose the restaurant, Momiji, located in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, and we settled in just in time for our reservation. We ordered an Omakase Sashimi platter, a handful of specialty rolls including the Moonraker, Crunchy Lizard, and Badboy Roll, and of course, a bottle of red. Everything at dinner was absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere was amazing. The restaurant had an indoor courtyard feel, with the late daylight flooding the windows to give the perfect lighting. The restaurant also exuded a certain chicness, with a combination of classic contemporary and traditional Japanese architecture and decoration.
It was the perfect way to end our day in Downtown Seattle, and even though we were all absolutely stuffed, we were able to find just enough room in our bellies to sample cheesecakes from the nearest Cheesecake Factory.
All in all, our trip to Seattle was an absolute success.
